Weighing food, until you do you actually measurers your portions of food you are guessing about how much your eating. Digital scales make it easy, I keep them right next to my food preparation area with a pencil and paper.
Weighing Tip's;
Bowl of Cereal, put bowl on scale and zero, add cereal note weight and zero, add milk note weight and zero, add sugar and note weight. You can also weigh packaged foods before and after to get the amount used or you can put the food on the scale, zero scale add the food to meal and return to scales to get weight used with "-" sign in front. You'll soon find many food serving are consistent and don't need to be checked every time,
So one day I thought I must do something about my diet, I know I'll just see what I am eating and and check it with my RDA to see what I need to add or take out to balance my diet. Sounds easy enough, after a day or two of information overload I started this web site. That only gave a me way to figure out my DI and RDA intakes, I still had to find out how much i was eating. Using a digital scale i soon was able to enter all the food I'd eaten into the Diet Analyzer.
I was quite surprised, my diet was way out of balance my diet was and I was eating too much, though i had realized that I had no idea what actual nutrients amounts I was eating even with all my diligent checking of product nutrition labels. The Diet Analyzer indicated my diet had excessive protein, fat and salt and lacked carbohydrates, fiber, sugars and calcium.
It was obvious I had to add some foods high in carbohydrates, fiber , sugar and calcium while cutting down on foods high in protein, fat and salt. Changing my diet was not to hard but it did require a bit of planning for next days food intake while reviewing Diet Analyzer after I had finished eating for the day.
